On a carbureted engine, an MSD 6-series box provides meaningful benefit — the multiple spark discharge improves combustion completeness at lower RPM and during cold start, and the stronger spark energy helps with plug fouling resistance on performance engines running rich or with aggressive camshafts. On a modern EFI engine with a high-energy factory coil-on-plug ignition system, the benefit of adding a traditional MSD box is minimal — modern factory ignition systems already deliver very high spark energy. What is a two-step rev limiter and how does the MSD 6AL-2 work?
