This allows the valve to move quickly and freely, but with the downside that the valve is useless on a tuned or high-boost car. This keeps the valve shut under load, but with the downside that response time is reduced thanks to the spring being stiffer, and therefore physically harder to compress.The fitment of the stronger spring can also limit the opening of the valve which restricts the volume of air it can flow. Thanks to the plethora of sophisticated ECU software out there, these days, many cars also have some kind of easily-switchable throttle maps. On systems like EcuTek, where moving between throttle and boost maps can be as simple as clicking and flicking your cruise control switch, how on earth can a dump valve spring be perfectly set for your everyday 1.0 bar map, but also work perfectly for your drag strip all-out 1.4 bar mental mapping? Put simply, it cant so up until now, all dump valves had to be set to some sort of compromise to be a jack of all trades, and master of none. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\"\u003e\n\u003cbr style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\"\u003e\n\u003cspan style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\"\u003eIf only there was a way to make the dump valves spring operation completely independent of the spring pressure inside. A way to allow its function to work perfectly at any boost level. Clearly concerned by this very same problem, Forges technicians beavered away to find a solution. What they came up with is called the Intake Pressure Compensation Valve (or IPCV for short) and its really rather clever. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\"\u003e\n\u003cbr style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\"\u003e\n\u003cspan style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\"\u003eWhat makes the IPCV valve ingenious is that it re-routes the various high and low pressure feeds through a clever internal piston system (see diagram). When the throttle is opened and the car is accelerating, boost pressure generated by the turbocharger will ensure that whichever dump valve or recirculation valve you have fitted will be kept sealed. As no boost is now being lost through the intercooler (which can usually be anywhere between 1-3 psi of boost drop) the pressure acting on top of the piston of your dump valve is precisely equal to that underneath it. The result? Only a relatively weak spring is required to keep it operating, which means response times can be kept quick and throttle response is immediate. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cimg style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.urotuned.com\/photos\/FMIPCV_diagram.jpg\"\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cfont style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\" size=\"2\" face=\"Arial\"\u003eAs dump valve springs usually have to compensate for the pressure drop across the intercooler, and this problem is now no longer an issue, the dump valve can now be run with a very weak spring. In fact, during testing, Forge Motorsport has actually been able to make this system work with no spring in the dump valve at all! \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWhen the throttle is snapped shut either to change gear, or on over-run, the vacuum created by the engine opens up the dump valve and allows the air to either recirculate back around the turbo (in the case of a recirculation valve) or straight back out to the atmosphere. Put simply, what these means, is that even on a fire-breathing 1200 bhp GT-R, the dump valves now only require a very weak spring to operate perfectly with no boost loss, allowing them to open more responsively on partial throttle, improving performance in every gear, and at whatever revs you care to use. Best of all, this principle works as well on a bone-stock Subaru WRX as it does on a Drag-spec Evo. In addition, by regulating and reducing the air temperature, it also increases the reliability of an engine by keeping the AFRs (Air Fuel Ratios) in each cylinder at a safe level, which in turn can increase an engines power due to the air being cooler. A bigger bang is then created within the cylinder, providing the correct amount of fuel is added. However, the weakness in the airbox is most definitely the quantity and directional flow of the air. As such, we explored several different avenues, before settling on a replacement upper airbox that mounts to the stock lower. The increased diameter from 80mm of the stock inlet pipe to 89mm produces a\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u0026gt;volumetric increase of around 20%\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ein just the connecting pipe from turbo inlet adapter to the airbox alone. After running data and tests it was decided that we would not use a panel filter, but instead a cone filter as shown in the CAD below. 3D scan data was utilized to ensure that the cone filter would fit in the optimum position inside the lower airbox, not just for ease of fitment but also to allow for optimum flow into the inlet tract.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis product works extremely well when collaborated with existing Forge Motorsport performance products for the Toyota Yaris GR. Once coupled to this intake we have been able to ensure a smooth airflow from filter to turbo with minimal restrictions by continuing the 89mm diameter for a large proportion of the inlet tract. It is designed in a similar way to a conventional velocity stack by routing the air more directly into your turbo charger and allows more air to be compressed due to its larger capacity. We ran a total of 8 different prototype variations of MAF height, MAF distance from entry and inlet diameter to ensure that the best solution was used. You can see how sticking to the stock size diameter and MAF position with the cone filter produced a slight improvement to the wheel horsepower, however when increased to 89mm we were able to produce some fantastic gains from such an easy to install bolt on modification.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAnother important observation to note is where the power is delivered. As you can clearly see on the dyno graph that the engine produces a much higher power earlier into the rev range. The OEM turbo elbow is an aluminum cast part with a 3” inlet tract that tapers down to the factory turbo charger cold side feed. Forge Motorsport offer and manufacture an upgraded silicone inlet elbow and turbo inlet adaptor (FMINLH9) not only to increase the area to the inlet tract but also the volumetric capacity. This has been increased to 3.5”and is the largest available product that fits RHD vehicles (due to space constraints with the brake master cylinder and is not physically possible to increase this size any further). However, this is not a problem on LHD vehicles, and as such there are various 4” variants available. We decided on keeping the OEM air inlet to feed a specifically designed heat shield which sits flush up to the bonnet. This has a better effect on performance when cool as this is to provide the engine with more oxygen (denser air), thus improving the combustion in each cylinder. In addition, by regulating and reducing the air temperature, it also increases the reliability of an engine by keeping the AFRs (air fuel ratios) in each cylinder at a safe level, which in turn, can increase an engines power due to the air being cooler. A bigger bang is then created within the cylinder, providing the correct amount of fuel is added. This can equate to an increase in BHP and torque. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eWe use SolidWorks CAD, 3D prints, and numerous dyno sessions to truly unlock the power. Simulation testing played a large part in the design process to help maximize the airflow. The 3D printed prototypes helped with comparing our simulation testing to real world driving conditions. This is a valuable comparison that is used in the top tiers of motorsport, now being brought to your vehicle.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eBeing able to test 3 different 8Y RS3’s on 3 different independent dynos has been of vital importance to our development process. One of these RS3’s was (at the time of writing) the fastest 8Y RS3 in the world making 682Whp with\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eFMINT33,\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eFMINLH9, FMINDK47 installed along with a TTE777 Hybrid Turbo charger, this proves the FMINDK47 has great CFM airflow ratings over the standard intake system on vehicles with such a high state of tune.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe other vehicles tested were a UK RHD 8Y running\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eFMINT33. We then changed out from the OEM turbo inlet to\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eFMINLH9\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eto confirm the differences in BHP with these extra modifications. We were also able to test on a LHD 8Y that was completely stock.  \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eWith a completely stock tune vehicle we were able to see peak gains of 6BHP. However further analysis of the dyno graph shows that this peak BHP figure was produced 200RPM earlier (6097RPM instead of 6298RPM). Additionally, the power curves were smoothed across the entirety of the rev range, with gains seen across the board. To pull out some snapshots from the rev range as examples, at 3000RPM using just FMINDK47 saw an\u003cstrong data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eincrease of 25BHP\u003c\/strong\u003e, and at 4500RPM there was an increase of 17BHP. Torque figures saw similar gains across the rev range, with a peak torque figure increasing by 17NM at around 100RPM earlier.
